Eric Pulier: Pioneer, Entrepreneur, Father

An active father of four, the Los Angeles-based Eric Pulier came from humble beginnings. Raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, he began programming computers at a young age and even founded a company while in high school. While in college earning a degree in English and American Literature, he also took classes at nearby MIT. Additionally, he wrote and edited a weekly column for The Harvard Crimson while attending that Ivy League University.

In 1998, just ten years after graduating from Harvard magna cum laude, Eric Pulier founded Starbright World, a private social network for children with chronic illnesses. This private network allowed them to meet and interact with their peers, who were often going through the same tough times they where. It linked more than seventy-five hospitals with both text and video-based conferencing systems for these patients to use. This branched off into a video game created to teach children about Diabetes through a fun, interactive, and educational game.

During his early years with technology, Eric created a multimedia educational program for the Multiple Sclerosis Society to teach those who suffer from MS about their disease. Pulier more or less pioneered the use of home PCs for complex educational experiences, which also feature a device that would allow those without sufficient motor control to use their computer.

Just a year before Starbright World was founded, Pulier was tapped to create the Presidential Technology Exhibit in Washington, DC, dubbed “The Bridge to the 21st Century”. When he isn’t busy investing in a number of successful start-ups and ventures, he serves on the board of The Painted Turtle, a summer camp dedicated to children with chronic illnesses.

Not so! After founding such enterprises as Digital Evolution, Starbright World, Desktone, and Akana, Pulier is always on the look out for his next successful start-up or capital venture opportunity.
