Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, better known as the Chainsmokers, recently released their hit new single, “Closer”, featuring Halsey. Although they have encountered moderate success earlier in their careers, Closer is by far their most popular song to date. In an interview with Interview Magazine, Pall opened up about what brought him and Taggart together.
Before meeting Taggart, Pall was a DJ in New York City, doing it out of passion, not as a career. Moving through the amateur DJ circuit, his manager introduced him to Taggart since they both had an interest in proper dance music and creating their own music. With this, Taggart and Pall started working day in and day out to make their own music and make a statement in the big entity that is electronic music.
On “Closer”, Taggart sings along with Halsey to create contrast in the song. When asked why they decided this, Pall replies by saying that no other electronic artist sings in their songs. They always sample from other artists, and this gives them identity and a unique feel to their song. (Read more about Pall on Genius.com: Alex Pall)
Pall and Taggart also said that they had a very good time working with Halsey to create their radio anthem. They said the reason they loved working with her is that she has a very distinct style and is not afraid to be herself in her songs. Her singing and Taggart singing on the song also helps to give them the identity Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall have been striving for.
The Chainsmokers have also been quoted as going on another world tour in support of “Closer”. Pall has said they have had to drastically change the way that their live shows work, since Taggart will now be singing on live performances of “Closer”. Throughout all of the changes to their shows, style, and songs, The Chainsmokers remain as one of the biggest influences in popular and electronic music today. See This Page for more information
